Our family roots go back to Tourouvre, France:
Saint-Aubin Cathedral:
A plaque on the wall has a list of people baptized there who migrated to Canada:
Jean Gagnon, baptized in 1610, was the grandson of Barnabe Gagnon who bought land east of Tourourve.
Barnabe’s farm and inn that he established was is called La Gagnonniere.
Jean Gagnon migrated to Quebec in 1635.

Hello
I am a descendant of Pierre Gagnon and love what you’ve done to document the Gagnon migration from France to Canada. May I use some of the photos from your website for my family genealogy documentation?
I appreciate your consideration.

Hey Jim,
The black and white photos of the Gagnonnière from 1980 are from my website, I would only request that you credit the pix and give a link back to my site.
Here’s the page: http://upperstjohn.com/gagnon/gagnonniere.htm
Thanks.

I am a decendant of Jean Gagnon. My grandfather, Viateur Gagnon, migrated to America to work in the French Worcestor Mills in Rhode Island. It was great to see the pictures.

I am a descendant of Julien Mercier, on the same plaque. My maternal grandfather Norbert Mercier migrated to Fall River, MA, both grandfathers (paternal is Beaudoin) and most of my aunts and uncles (and both my parents) worked in the Fall River and RI textile mills.
A trip to Tourouvre is on my bucket list, thanks for sharing the photos and history.

My great grandparents also emigrated to Fall River, MA from Quebec. That is where my paternal grandfather was born. My great grandfather was a descendant of Robert Gagnon who also lived and worked at La Gagnonierre until he emigrated to Quebec. Fascinating stuff! I visited La Gagnonierre when in France in 2018.

I just learned of this connection today from a Gagnon cousin. She figured out we are direct descendants of Pierre. Very excited to learn about these roots. My Mom was a Gagnon and married a Gagne. Plan on researching my Dads family too

Hi,
My name is Caroline Gagnon and my ancestor is Maturin Gagnon. I’m happy to see his name on the plaque.
When he migrated to Québec City, he opened a general store with his brothers.
He also had a farm that still exists not to far from where I live and there’s a plaque giving information there.
Caroline Gagnon, daughter of Michel Gagnon, granddaughter of Ambroise Gagnon and great granddaughter of Télesphore Gagnon … All from Quebec City 🇨🇦
