Château-Richer is located on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River east of Quebec City.
Pioneer migrant Jean Gagnon obtained land here in 1640, next to lands of his two brothers.
Five generations of the Gagnon family would live in Chateau-Richer.
The first rural parish to be formed in New France was Chateau-Richer.
